I have just made it
easy for you to use Wacom Drawing Tablets on Linux Desktops with
asherswacomdrawingtablet.
The program was developed in MX Linux.
Using QT 5.
I have bought a Wacom Drawing Tablet from
Amazon. It comes with a Pen and a drawing tablet. And when I went to
hook it up with Linux it worked straight out of the box.
And the
programs that came with the Linux Desktop left me some what wanting.
So after reading the ability of the Tablet. I designed my own Desktop
Application with a more user friendly interface.
Ok on the command
line lets type out:
xsetwacom –list devices
You
will see that I have 2 outputs
1 is a stylus with
an ID of ???
and you will see that I have an Eraser with an ID
of ???
Don’t ask me about the Eraser because the back of
the pen DOES NOT erase. I repeat
the back of the pen DOES NOT
ERASE.
So the program xsetwacom gives you everything that
is need but in a command line interface.
So I broke down all the
functions and features that the Wacom tablet had and turned it into
an easy to use Desktop Application.
To test the program
click file then check mark Just Test and check mark Show Output. Now
when you click submit you will see exactly what the command line call
is.
You will see xsetwacom tack tack XXX mode
absolute
This is the exact thing that you would type in a
terminal.
Map to Monitor is not being used.
Xsetwacom tack
tack XXX Rotate none
and now the second ID number
xsetwacom tack tack set XXX mode absolute
xsetwacom tack tack
set XXX Rotate none
Map to monitor is not being used.
And For the Second
ID
xsetwacom tack tack XXX mode absolute
xsetwacom tack tack
XXX Rotate none

Now the default position of the wacom tablet is
Portrait with power cord facing Left.
If you want to turn
the tablet 90 degrees to the Right I call this Clockwise. However if
the show option is on you will notice that it says to rotate tablet
counter-clockwise.
In Japan counter-clockwise is 90
degrees to the right. So only in Japan does Clockwise contradict the
rest of the world as we think the clocks spin to the right but in
Japan just the opposite is true.
So I corrected the program for
the rest of the world.
If you click on Relative you will
notice that Map to monitor disappears. Relative Mode is where ever
the mouse is that is where you start. This is great for using the
Tablet as a mouse.
If you click on Absolute which is the
default mode. In this configuration the top left of the Tablet is the
top left of your screen and the bottom right of the tablet is the
bottom right of your screen.
However if you have Multiple
monitors for example you have 2 monitors side by side. The default
Tablet is Top Left Screen all the way to the bottom right of the 2nd
screen.
With Map to Monitor you can choose what screen you
want to use the Tablet with. So I you just want it on one monitor
These are your options.
The draw back here is once you Map to
Monitor you can not go back to Map to Monitor on all screens.
To
use any of the other functions you will notice a Check Box With the
word Activate, So if you want that option you must have the
Activation Box clicked for the tablet to be changed.
If you want PC
Button Mode to Change you first click on Activate then change the
mode from off to on
and again if you want to change the
Pressure Curve first Check the Activate and now Change the
parameters.
So anyways I just went with the flow and set
all ID given. There are up to 8
The program auto detects the tablets Id’s and functions completely by the click of a button.
